The International Symposium on Lightning Protection (SIPDA) is a scientific event organized every two years that has as main goals to contribute to the discussion and dissemination of innovations in lightning technology. The event covers all lightning-related aspects, including lightning physics and characterization, measurements, modeling techniques, detection and location systems, grounding, protection methods, and accidents and damages associated with the phenomenon.

The event is organized by the Institute of Energy and Environment of the University of São Paulo (IEE/USP) with the technical co-sponsorship of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and support of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and the National Institute for Space Research (INPE).

The following CIGRE Working Group meetings will be held in conjunction with the XV SIPDA:

  • CIGRE B2/C4 WG 76 (Lightning & Grounding Considerations for Overhead Line Rebuilding and Refurbishing Projects, AC and DC): Sep. 29th, 2019 (9:00 - 12:00, Tryp São Paulo Iguatemi Hotel);
  • CIGRE WG C4.57: (Guidelines for the Estimation of Overhead Distribution Line Lightning Performance and its Application to Lightning Protection Design Scope): Sep. 29th, 2019 (14:30 - 17:00, Tryp São Paulo Iguatemi Hotel);
  • CIGRE WG C4.43: (Lightning Problems and Lightning Risk Management for Nuclear Power Plants): Oct. 4th, 2019 (14:00 - 17:00, University of São Paulo - the meeting will be open for WG members only).

On Oct. 4th (Friday) there will be a Round Table - "Discussion on Non-Conventional Lightning Protection Procedures".

AWARD!!

The open access journal Atmosphere will sponsor two awards at the XV SIPDA for young scientists (up to 35 years old). Awards of 400 Swiss Francs will be made to the best poster and best oral presentations. Please be sure to let your oral session chair know if you are eligible for consideration. The Organizing Committee will prepare a special indicator to be placed with your poster.
